Well done to Tuxford YFC on winning this weekend’s Soil Management competition, along with Collingham YFC who finished in second place.
Kindly hosted by Mark Strawson, and judged by Mark Hodkinson, the competition involved the physical examination of three soil profiles. Competitors were required to determine the characteristics of the soil and to identify and specify the deficiencies and/ or attributes of the soil and its structure, along with noting how they would farm the soil they examined with regard to cropping, drainage, cultivations, fertility etc. Each member of the team then presented their findings to the judge
A great competition for those budding farmers to get involved with, or someone who would like to brush up on their speaking skills. All YFC competitions are designed for participation at every level, whether you’re an expert or a beginner-It’s certainly the taking part and having fun that counts!
